Hi there

I found this in the emuarc forum, although they're replies for an Emax II power supply, it
might be helpful.

You might try to find out the specs on your power supply. Emu used two types of power supplies. One was manual voltage input select 110/220 and the other was auto input voltage select. Then look for signs on the pc board or stickers as to the current capability of each voltage supply output (5&12VDC). Also measure the physical dimensions. I had to find a suitable switching power supply replacement for a Proteus 1 and I found a source this web site (http://www.skynetusa.com/) ($50.00us on a credit card)which was the original manufacturer for EMU Proteus 1. Although some of the outputs have a higher current capability it still works. These supplys have current sensing logic built in and they won't operate if your logic board or ADC board has a short circuit. It is always good to go with a new supply in most cases. I hope this helps you and others looking for power supplies in the future. EMU recommends that you replace the supply and not try to repair it yourself.

You can use a power supply from any PC, whether new or used. I've done this twice on 2 separate emaxes...if you have a basic knowledge of wiring & can solder...no prob. the key is to write down the colors of both elements & know what goes where. when you look at the emax's cable that goes from the power supply to the system board, look on the IC board & you'll see +12, -12, G & +5. write down which color goes to which, & mate this to one of the replacement power supply's cables (the kind that plug into a PC's HD or CD). I would confirm the output of the computer power supply's wiring w/ a voltmeter. for example, red & the black right next to it could be the 12's, while yellow & the black next to it are the G & 5.
I don't remember off the top of my head, so double check that. when making those connections, disconnect the emax's power cable (the ribbon cable w/ purple, green, yellow & orange) from the broken power supply. snip the red plastic plug off from THAT END ONLY!!!. strip these leads & solder into 4 clusters...one w/ 3 yellows, one w/3 greens, etc. then, snip off one of the leads from the computer power supply, & strip & pre-solder those leads. then, solder the 3 +12's to the PC's +12, & so on. I use the heat shrink tubing to seal everything up nicely.
