Possessed EMAX II
2004-12-18 by dave dehart
I've taken Steve's advice and opened-up my EMAX II (Keyboard) to see if there are any obviously unseated connections on my hard drive and the first thing that I noticed was that there is a stick-on impact indicator on the Connor hard drive.. It has what appears to be a glass tube that has turned bright red on one half. The indicator says red indicates "excessive impact". Although this mint condition keyboard was shipped to me in an ATA flight case, it did make the journey from Richmond, VA, to Green Bay, WI via UPS ground. I'm hoping this is the reason this baby stopped booting-up. When it arrived here, it booted fine and did so several times and then failed on the 7th or 8th power-up. Since then it has booted (by magic or through a wormhole) and functioned well until turned-off a couple of times. For the most part it just won't boot, saying "loading software" and then "disk unformatted" and blinking back and forth between the two messages. I recently ordered a replacement hard drive from a gentleman on Ebay. I say "gentleman" because this guy has been a pleasure to work with. If anyone is wondering about dealing with him, I would highly recommend they go ahead and trust that not only will he be in solid communication AFTER you pay him, he really cares if you get your baby back up and running. I think his Ebay handle is something like "MADTUX". Let me know if you want to contact him. ANYWAY (sorry for the long winded message) Does any one out there feel the hard drive is my problem? I'll be replacing it when I get the new one very soon and will share the outcome. John G (thank-you very much) did send me a boot disk, but although the disk drive seems to be running fine, it just gives me a "disk is unformatted" message as well. A computer guy in our family told me it's possible the disk was "zapped" by security measures on the way here. Any suggestions at this stage would be very much appreciated. Please do the ancient EMAX dance for me and light a candle. Dave
