I've got a 486 that I keep specifically for writing HD Mac disks, Emax disks
and Ensoniq Mirage disks. Anything with a floppy will do. Freedos works
well for this job (www.freedos.org).

The problem I have is that samples loaded from an Emax I disk into my Emax
II sound "clicky", ie the loops are somehow wrong. But it's not just loops,
it can click in the attack portion of a sound. All very wierd. I'm rather
worried that it's going senile, and a memory IC is going bad. The
self-tests exonerate it completely though. Strange...

Cheers,
  Gordon

This is from my FAQ:

The Emax II is compatible with disks from the original Emax. However, the
samples are expanded from 12 bit to 16 bit format. Additionally, the Emax II has
digital filters and DCAs, while the Emax's were analog. Generally, the sounds
transfer well, but some may require a little bit of tweaking, and loops
occasionally sound glitched. Remember, the original Emax was limited in the
amount that one could pitch-shift a sample upwards. The Emax II can shift +/- 5
octaves, so you can reassign samples to take advantage of this. Also, there can be
problems with samples that have loops less than 32 samples long
Loops are known to have issues. As far as the clicky sounds could it be the results of
expanding low rate samples? Are the sample you are transfering all made at the Emax's
lowest sample rate? I know when I try to transfer over the SE Development kit samples
for my Emax SE HD to the Emax II all I get is noise there is something about those
samples whether it be rate or loop length that makes them completey useless on the
Emax II. It sounds like it could be a similar issue.

Hmmm... D'Oh! It's been a while since I read the FAQ. Anyhow, I'm going
to "massage"
the loops a wee bit with Wavelab. If the results are any good, I'll post
them somewhere.
