New version EMXP including new features

New version EMXP including new features

2006-08-19 by esynthesist

Hi all

A new version of EMXP has been saved in the files section:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/emax/files/EMXP/

New features in version 1.92 BETA build #1 are:

- The OmniFlop floppy driver (by Sherlock Consulting) is supported.
- EMAX Floppy disks can be formatted now.
- EMAX Operating Systems can be copied to/from floppy disks and
to/from EMAX-II zip disks.
- All EMAX bank parameters (bank, preset, voice, sample, key area)
can be shown on-screen.
- WAV files can be converted to EMAX banks and EMAX samples can be
exported to WAV.

Also some important bugs have been removed from v1.91#1.
Especially bugs that caused ZIP disks to "lose" some banks or "lose"
the OS.

Note that this is still a BETA version. All EMXP versions will
probably be beta-versions since I do not receive sufficient feedback
to promote EMXP to a "stable" status.

Please read the README file and the MANUAL (both included).

One more version is planned for october 2006. That version will
support EMAX-HD/PLUS ZIP disks. After the release of that version I
will stop programming and supporting emax-software. It's time to make
more music now... and start some research on my Emulator-II.

Have fun, any feedback is welcome !

I've put a temporary new version 1.93 of EMXP in the files section
(file EMXP_v193b2.ZIP).

Main reason for this "on the fly" release is a bugfix in the FORMAT
feature for floppy disks.

It seemed that disks formatted by EMXP v1.92 even with the OmniFlop
driver were not 100% compatible with EMAX-I samplers. I discussed
this with Sherlock Consulting and they gave me new example code how
to FORMAT the disks. This is included in v1.93 build 2.
It should work now. Even the floppies formatted with the native EMXP
floppy driver provided with EMXP (see ZIP file v1.92) should create
EMAX-I compatible disks now, but I still recommend to use the
OmniFlop driver with EMXP because it's much more reliable in Windows
XP (though a little bit slower).

By the way, this 1.93 version does still not support EMAX-I zip disks
although some code to support them has already been implemented in
this version. I hope it won't make EMXP more unstable :-)

Other new stuff in v1.93 is:
- HTML reports can be generated
- EMXP can handle corrupt images now (many of them exist on the
internet :-)
- some bugfixes, e.g. in the EMAX-I to EMAX-II conversion

The EMXP floppy driver and updated manual are not provided in the
zipfile. The manual is not ready yet, the driver can be found in the
v1.92 package...

Have fun

Oops, sorry about that. I forgot to mention that you have to get a
specific license for using the OmniFlop driver with EMXP.
You should use the "Get a License" option in OmniFLop, and select the
EMXP/EMXPN software from the list.

I have put the full description of this licensing procedure in the
manual. You can find the updated manual in the EMXP zip package in the
files section, I just replaced it. The previous manual did not contain
that paragraph...
Don't worry: the licensing process is very easy and almost completely
automated. You'll receive a registration key from Sherlock Consulting
immediately, and you'll have to copy that key into the registration
field of the OmniFlop License window. That's about it...

For more details: see manual.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
