Emax SE with no O.S. diskettes

Emax SE with no O.S. diskettes

2006-11-26 by harrioj

I just picked up an Emax SE with no diskettes. I am so very anxious
to see what this thing sounds like but can't right now. I am getting
good signs that it's working okay. It looks really good and it
displays the "Insert a Disk" message each time I turn is on. I made
several attempts to download the O.S. from the internet onto a DSDD
floppy but and load it but the Emax SE would not load it. It did
display "System is Loading" message and played a continous clicking
sound like it was loading but no success.

So yesterday I ordered a couple of diskettes from Kid Nepro. But I
was told that I might be in for a long wait. That will definitely be
painful.

Can someone tell me a speedier way to get up and running at least to
explore some sounds? I have been reading that I will need a real
system formatted disk before I can really do a whole lot. I am just
checking to see if there is an express way to get a system disk. I am
army and stationed in Northern Italy but we have a US Army post
office here and it operates pretty much the same as any other U.S.
post office. We just don't get the overnighter luxury, but Priority
(air) mail works pretty okay. Kid Nepro does not do Priority mail so
I am looking for something swifter.

I got a feeling this forum is going to get me squared away. Thanks in
advance.

I can supply you with the OS disk of your choice, the cost will be $35
including shipping.

The cost is there since my emax is currently in storage and I have to make a
special trip to copy and test the OS disk.

Paypal is elmacaco@...

Let me know if you are interested.

Andy,
Thanks. I want to give that a try. I have got to find PC with MS-DOS (non-Windows). Would I also need a real Emax disk (factory or copy) that has been formatted on the actual EMAX system?
Hopefully I will find an MS-DOS system to use within the next few days.

Re: Emax SE with no O.S. diskettes

Hi Reggie,

Just for my information: did you try EMXP with the OmniFlop-floppy
driver on Windows XP ?
I ask this because I notice some people still seem to be desperate to
create a bootable disk for Emax.

EMXP and OmniFlop have been specifically been tuned to create Emax-
compatible disks in WinXP, but if there are still some emax-fans out
there having trouble with EMXP/OmniFLop formatted disks, we (me & the
Omniflop-guy) can go on with our search to find the right format-
parameters.
The current version has already been used succesfully by some emax-
users, but maybe some further finetuning can even reach a larger
userbase.

Anyone still having trouble with EMXP/OmniFlop-formatted disks: feel
free to send me an e-mail...

Re: [emax] Re: Emax SE with no O.S. diskettes

E-Synthesist,
No I didn't try it because I don't run XP. I am still running ME (lol). I have decided to wait on a real Emax disk. I have already pulled enough hair. I really appreciate the tips. I should be getting a couple of disks within the next week or two.

  Thanks,
  Reggie
