Sound Designer II: addtional folders ?

Sound Designer II: addtional folders ?

2007-07-08 by esynthesist

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Sound Designer II version 2.5 on my Mac
computer. The Mac has an Audiomedia II soundcard inside so I should
be able to use to software with my EmaxII samplers.
I downloaded the v2.5 SIT file from this archive (provided by Rob)
and installed the software. So far so good...
...but when launching the SDII software it complains about missing
folders (SDII Sample Rates folder, SDII Fonts folder and so on).
Indeed, these are not included in the SIT file.
But they are required for running SDII.

Can anyone post these folders to the Files section (or to my e-mail
address). It would be very much appreciated !

(I need SDII to perform some tests with my EMAX samplers in order to
make a new version of EMXP with extended translation capabilities)

Many thanks !

Maybe you can ind the file you need here.
http://archive.digidesign.com/download/legacy/sd2/
Try using Tome Viewer to extract the file you need.
Or possibly try creating the folders yourself inside the SD II folder.
I know you might have to guess what the programmer named the folders
but it might be worth a try.

Re: Sound Designer II v2.5: additional folders ?

2007-07-23 by esynthesist

Thx Dana, but this doesn't work.
The digidesign website only provides the 2.82 version. This is an
updater which requires that version 2.80 has been installed before...
and I don't know where to download that one :-)
Moreover I need the 2.50 files, since that's the last version which
supported remote control of the Emax. Higher versions don't have this
feature anymore.
Creating the folders myself is not sufficient - I tried that. But the
folders should contain files that are part of the SDII packages, and
I'm not able to recreate those ones (they contain the config settings
for sample rates).

I'm 99% sure I have these files, but I'll have to do some digging.

I'll try to get back to you soon as I know you're anxious to get new
translation features into EMXP.

5380 SCSI IC

2007-07-27 by ted Summers

I know I had seen recently people looking for these, and saying they
were unable to find them... so here are a couple of links....

5380 is ALSO 53C80

http://parts.o2xygen.com/parts/5/47.html
http://ks5.isocomponents.com/part/KS53C80
http://www.digchip.com/datasheets/quote.php?action=search&pn=53C80
http://www.1sourcecomponents.com/partnumber/parts1p3487.htm

On these pages you will note that some suppliers have 10, others have
3465 of these... I would go for the people with smaller #s, as they
will probably want to get them off the shelf and out of inventory...

a bunch of people here on the group may want to get together ahead of
time to create a single total order, so you can meet a minimum, then
one person can order and cross-ship to everyone else....

what you do-
you may have to register, then do a rfq- or if they have a phone #
give them a call.

you want a 40 pin dip configuration, not the plcc (unless you wanna
buy a converter, too).... don't go that route if you don't have to!

call / email to determine if there is a minimum qty / price. Then
meet that by either getting a couple people together, or (like in my
case) buy a couple of chips....

It IS possible to get them new. In my case, the distributor had a $25
min. so I bought 3 chips at the time....all gone now.

Why de-solder one off some old mac board and risk damaging the chip,
if you can get one to just plug in brand new?

The biggest thing is don't sound like a dumbo or be an A$$ on the
phone when talking to a distributor. FYI - my chips were about $8.50
each.
Keep in mind that to get the scsi working on your emax- is it worth a
few $$$ to you? For me it was....

If you call-
1) Just ask, "Do you have a minimum order requirement?" If so, what
is the minimum? If it is too high, say thank you and move on....

2) Ask for availability of the item: " I am looking for an 5380 or
53C80 SCSI controller chip in the 40-pin dip configuration. I saw on
your website that you might have that available or be able to source
that for me?

That is how I did it. It only took me 2 tries- first person said we
only do OEM, min 1000 pieces. So I called the next number and they
had only a few chips. They were more than happy to sell them.

Hope this advice helps someone!

IF anyone has the full set of this 2.5 that works, I wouldn't mind
having it..... I called digi a couple of years ago and said, hey I
have your latest protools, I understand you don't support it, but
can't I get an image of this or something? I'll pay.... no dice...

Thx,

Ted (and E-Synthesist), you're in luck!

I'm uploading the file SDII 2.5.sea (and why not SDII 2.7.sea) to the
files section now.

Fantastic !
I just installed the v2.5 and it works ! All requires files and
folders are included.

Many thanks.
