SE upgrade complete... now for some sounds

SE upgrade complete... now for some sounds

2008-08-08 by soundsubs

hey group---
i got my keyboard upgraded. loving it. now im making all the old disks
have the right (newer) OS. anyhoo.

the majority of SE sound banks ive found have been evolving kinds of
pads and things. has anyone mastered SE so well that they would share
some of their "non-pad" sounds?

im looking for analog synth basses, drums, hammer hits, thunder
crashes, etc.

thanks

Just my experience of course, but the very sounds you are looking for
are the ones that SE simply cannot create well. Everything I've heard or
created with SE comes out very digital sounding and the only interesting
things have been the sounds that evolve from one waveform to another.

searing leads is the korg dss1 the se synthesis is more of a evolving
pad synth creation ala microwave but with out the samples of the bass
wave forms

the basic analog wave forms are the best for bass layering them
together if you want to make great basses then use single cycle waves
of the analog wave forms and loop them and layer them and use the
analog filters and synth section to emulate an analog synth
doing it this way takes up very little memory and is very rewarding in
creation

an analog or digital or sampler all work on the same principle

oscillators are the untouched sound source in an analog synth

digital wave forms are untouched sound source of digital synth

samples are the untouched sound source of sampling synth

so if we sample just the wave forms single cycle waves of the
oscillators or the digital wave forms then we can create the same
sounds as any of these synths the wave forms have to have no filters
on them no effects no lfo no volume effects just the plain waves
camptured at every key on the keyboard

then we use the filters and envelopes and effects and volume and lfo
to create the patch as it is played on the synth we are sampling
we can copy the same parameters from the synths we are copying
evelope settings for the filter the amplitude and the pitch

we can copy all the lfo and modulation settings for the filter and vca
 output add the resonance settings

what makes the samplers great with analog processing is that they are
mostly the same ic chips i.e curtis ssm or ir305 or ir309 or njm2069
as there analog and digital hybrid cousins

so you dont need to take up valuable sample time sampling a wave of a
sweeping analog synth as your synth and analog section can also do an
analog sweep so we only need the same wave forms to produce the same
sounds

so just treat every sample as this

oscillators = sound source = samples = pitch

filters = sound sculpture = via modulations = lfo/ envelope
/modulation sources

amplitude = volume sculpture = via modulation =
lfo/envelope/modulation sources

there is an infinite amount of wave forms

just layer them up in what ever way you want

thats how virtual synths are made they emulate the oscillators filters
and amplitude responses so we can do the same with our samplers

the only oscillator function we cant emulate this way is sync apart
from(korg dss1 /kurzweil k2000) but you can always sample full legnth
samples of these sounds.

my name is jammie logan and have been making and sampling since 1987
i have also been repairing samplers and synths from all manufacturers.

i have owned and still do own some of the best samplers ever produced
i now pick up old and damaged snths and samplers and put them back in
service for prosperity

samplers i have in my list at the moment is

ensoniq mirage with filter resonance compensation no drop in volume
and separate inputs to the 8 voice ic,s and separate outputs by me

ensoniq eps16+ 2mb flash ram card and separate outputs with custom
filter circuits with resonance by myself

ensoniq asr10

roland s330
roland s760

akai s1000
akai s3200

emu emulator4ultra
emu emax se hd

korg dss1
korg dsm1 with 32 inputs and resonance upgrade by myself

wanted list is a emulator 3 rack

i also create trans waves for the ensoniq synths

if you have any problems with your samplers or synths then don't
hesitate to ask as keeping these baby,s alive is a must
