Something's wrong with my Emax sound library, please help!

2009-03-05 by bermudaben2006

Hi there,

I hav a BIG problem with my Emax.

I bought it on Ebay with just a few disks. These are working fine.
Lately I downloaded all Emax factory sounds (xxx.em1 files) from a site on the Web. In addition, I downloaded the EMX DOS program in order to copy the sound files from my computer to disks previously formatted with my Emax.

While I am able to copy the .em1 files from my computer onto my Emax disks, the presets don't play correctly once loaded into Emax. Some presets don't play at all, the others sound like very badly looped, kind of stuttering...

I would be very grateful if someone could point me to where the error could be. I am using DD disks that were originally formatted for an Amiga computer. They seem to be ok. When I copy presets from the disks that came with the sampler to one of them they work fine.

How am I supposed to use the EMX program? I open a DOS window and run the program, right? Or do I need to start the computer in DOS mode? I noticed that EMX displays an error message when I choose "verify disk". It says: "Block 79. Verify Error". But it does this with all disks, also with the ones that are working correctly on Emax.

I appreciate your help.
Ben

Everytime I use EMX I always boot from DOS, I do NOT use it in a window
under XP / 2000/ Vista.

Ted

Hi Ben

You need to run EMX in pure DOS mode. A DOS box in windows mode creates errors.

Best regards

Yeah I just found out about the EMXP program yesterday! I'm gonna try and install this program today. I thought EMX was the only solution...
Thanks!

Right...I didn't know that. Does anybody know if using an external USB floppy drive can also cause problems with EMX? I don't have an internal floppy drive...maybe I should install one?

Yes I read that. But I wasn't sure about the old EMX software. Anyway, I have installed EMXP and an internal floppy drive now and everything is working perfectly. This software is awesome. E-Synthesist is a genius.
