SCSI CF drives on ebay.

SCSI CF drives on ebay.

2009-08-18 by Ted Summers

Folks-

Looks like the seller is auctioning another lot of 10 of these SCM PCD-50B
model and also singles for $15 +15 shipping.

Not bad for the group, but I would recommend waiting until I test this model
out before everyone jumps onto buying these.

They may need jumpering, proper termination resistors, or may not work at
all.
The description says you need three SCSI ID's to use the drive (not a
problem on Emax), but the Manufacturer PDF says these have firmware to use
LUN's not Targets, so 3 SCSI ID's would not be indicated in that event. In
SCSI terminology, LUN's are children of a parent SCSI ID (ie the target).
Which is why multiple slots may not work. Emax doesn't know about LUN
numbers.

I will have to test one to know for sure.

I may also look into whether there are different firmwares that may be able
to flash the drive to multiple slots (each slot a different ID).
I will let you all know when I get mine how it turns out. I should know
by Saturday as I expect them to arrive on Thursday or Friday.

Know also, that all units I sell will be tested in an Emax before I ship
them, assuming they work.

I will keep you all posted.

Regards,
Ted

ted the pcd-50b will only use 1 slot at a time it is hot swappable the reason being that the other devices are lun and not scsi id unless the device controller can control lun devices from 1 scsi id

then it will only see one of the devices at a time

the asr10 is the only sampler i know of that features lun but the pcd-50b dont work with the ensoniqs

the pcd-25b is a better drive and can configure is 2 pcmcia slots as 2 scsi id drives

the pcd-47b can have any of its 5 slots as 3 scsi id

to get it to work might need a rom change the pcd-50b were designed in 2001 for pc machines for digital photo work processors so might not have the standard scsi 1 protocols for it to communicate with the emax

the PCD47b is only 3 slots (well.. thats what the one I put in my mpc has)

I'm hoping to have a few 32mb cards here soon to try a PCD47b out with,
in the emax, though not sure it will work - I want to try it.

will probably keep that drive for my mpc, but getting the 32 meg cards
because I figure that eventually I'll have a drive that will work with
them in my emax.

yeah - old SCSI devices always seemed a bit funny about what functions
got implemented from device to device, and what would work with what.

I received the PCD-50B drives.

They successfully boot the emax from PC Card Slot.

However, they have Read-Only firmware. So all these drives from this
seller are Read Only.

I have got to find out if I can get a R/W firmware or see if I can mod
the firmware.

I will keep you posted.
