2002-07-02 by kabelkrach

I`ve been trying to find a way of linking an emax 1 to an iMac via
the RS 422 port and usb. Is anyone running this kind set up and
if so could you tell me what i need(i,e cables & software) and
where i can obtain them so that i can transferig data between the
two units.
.

thanks.

Hi
The Emax does not support USB, it uses a serial interface called RS422. Only
old Mac software can use RS422 (Alchemy and Sound Designer) and newer Mac's
cannot run this software or even see the Emax using a USB to serial
converter. If you can find an old version of Alchemy (download a copy from
our web site) or SD II you could then get an old Mac and run the software
with a RS422 serial cable. For further details see our web site...

Or buy a software sampler that can read EIII format sample CDROM's and run
it on the iMac and load the E-mu factory library of Emax sounds (called
Volume 10)...

Hi Bob,

I honestly don't know how to do the connection.

I'm seriously thinking of purchasing an HD fully loaded with the Emax I
sound library plus the Emax II sounds.

The only way I could think of possibly getting what you need is to do
more searches online.

Sorry I'm of no help at this time.

So am I correct in assuming I can now purchase the
cable, the software, and samples and use them with my
MAC SE/HD and EMAX?

That is something I've been trying to do forever!
Please make my year and tell me this is possible.

Otherwise I'm selling my Keyboard EMAX and the MAC on
ebay and joining the new sampling world! (ICK!)

Thanks!

Hi,
You can download Passport Alchemy software from our web site and run it on a
Mac SE, it may be a demo - so try it. See the EIII web pages.
If it runs ansd saves okay make up a cable using the instructions on our web
site.
If this works you can transfer samples between Mac and Emax.

Alternatively just wait for the Emulator 5 software sampler and read the
Emax samples from an EIII CDROM. They won't sound warm but it is easier.

I believe you can purchase those.... if not, you can get them from eBay.

I do know you can still get a hold of the 3.5" sample floppies from the
company that did the Emax I sound library called, "Greytsounds". Check
'em out on the net. Do a search on Yahoo or such for their name.

Good Luck on your search,

Jeff
