E-Max I and CF card issues what am i doing wrong?

E-Max I and CF card issues what am i doing wrong?

2010-06-21 by tstimac02

I just can't get this thing working.

I bought one of these SCSI->IDE converters:

http://tinyurl.com/2udnh9m

And a standard internal CF card reader (IDE). You can see them on the pic here:

http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/3707/32571720.jpg

Connected everything. When i go to Format, it says Formating Disk for about 5 seconds, then it says writing a bank (or something) and hangs that way forever. In fact it does that even when nothing is connected to SCSI.

You can see here that scsi cable is normally connected:

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4458/79206736.jpg

Difficult to see on pic, but red stripe is on the left side of the cable (which means connected properly).

I've became suspicious about this IDE card reader. I put it in the PC but couldn't have BIOS recognize it properly. Maybe that's the problem?

Thanks for any input!!

That IDE /SCSI bridge adapter is known not to work.
As posted here on this group in the past- an ACARD 7220U is known to
work.

DMA mode IDE to CF converter should work, but not PIO mode.

Also- some IDE to CF do not support boot. I cannot say about this
model for that purpose.

I cannot see the red stripe on the SCSI, but assuming it is to the
rear of the unit, it would be correct.

Regards,
Ted

that scsi to ide card dont work with older samplers the scsi 1 standard voltage implimentation for termination this card does not provide and wont see older samplers that use it thesre cards only work with later spec scsi 2 samplers like the yamaha a3000 akai s3000xl and kurzweils which these are better for as they dont have the time lag of the scsi1 versions

through tests and trials the only cards that work with the emax1 are acard a720u

Ted, my 7720u isn't letting me format still, I have contacted Acard, and when I plug in the card to my IDE slot to update the firmware....it wont recognize it with the app that i download from the site, I hooked up power to the card too and nada.......how did you update your firmware.

There must be a drive hooked up to the bridge to update the firmware.
No drive means no update because the firmware updater won't see the
bridge.

I hooked up IDE CDROM drive to mine (as master) hooked to adaptec
2940UW card in PC at SCSI ID 1.

You could also use some IDE hard drive as long as ti is not bigger
than 137GB, also I believe.

Then I updated the firmware. running XP SP2.

Hello,

My Emax 1 formats & boots with Acard 7720uw (+IDE->CF & CF 32mb. I can also save banks - but when I try to load the the Emax says "hard disk error". Strange...
