Emax II savings files to HD help.

Emax II savings files to HD help.

2010-06-27 by Reinaldo

Hi, sort of silly question. I have a bunch of floppies and a external formatted sacs CF drive from SCSforsamplers.

How can I transfer the floppy sounds to the external drive? I have the original Emax II manual but for some reason is tricky. I am actually loading the sounds and going PRESET MANAGEMENT and then Save As 16 Bit Bank and I get a SCSI EOF Error.

To make long story short... how do I do?

Thank you.

I think the step you are missing is the drive select part maybe? you have
to switch which drive is active.

load the sound bank into your emax using the floppy drive
after the bank is loaded goto "drive select" and choose your external hard
drive choice.
then goto "preset Management" 8 and save 16bit bank to the hard drive.

hope that helps...

Nope, I did that and I get the same error message "EOF Error!"

Did you format this CF card on the Emax-II ? Didn't that give an error also ?

Do you have this problem with any target bank number you choose on the CF drive ? Or don't you even get to the point where you can select this bank number ? Maybe give a step-by-step explanation of what you do till the point where you get the error.

I formated the CF card, I can actually start up the Emax II from it.

When I try to save I get and error, when I try to save again it asks me if I want to overwrite the bank or choose another. Either way I get the same error.

Mmmm...

I hope it's not the same kind of problem as the one I have with my SCSIForSamplers drive and my Emax-I.
With this drive my Emax-I is able to format the disks and even write banks to them, but the same Emax-I is not able to read these banks :)

What version of the CF drive do you have ?

Can you open the drive and write down the brand and version number of the IDE/SCSI interface board (the board which is connected via ribbon cables to the actual CF drive board at one side and with the SCSI ports at the other side) ?

It's known that SCSIForSamplers has released some drives with "wrong" IDE/SCSI adapter boards; these drives are not 100 pct compatible with older Emu and Ensoniq samplers. Although I'm not sure that the Emax-II had problems with it...

There are a bunch of chips and each with a different #. The board itself does not show any version. The compact Flash is 2GB.

Well... I can't say which one you have if you don't mention any more details :)
Moreover it's really common that the board itself also has a version and brand name printed on it. But SCSIForsamplers may have put a label of theirs on top of it. They always do - I don't know why. You can simply remove these labels.

Did you contact JD from SCSIForSamplers for any support regarding their drive and the Emax-II ?
