Using hard disks without SE OS? ERRATA CORRIGE

Using hard disks without SE OS? ERRATA CORRIGE

2002-11-05 by subruxu

Hi

I tried to format disk on emax before using emx on pc and now i can
boot with all os versions and i can see the se functions.
Now my problems are:

when i look for scsi format command in os plus, i receive
a "different software rev version"
I i try with se hd i can only see the bird run.......

My hard disk is gone, and i don't like iomegazip because of past
experiences with "click of death" issue.
Can the emax read a scsi hard disk different from miniscribe,
rodime, iomega zip?
(even if i can't boot from it or format more than 20 mb)

Thanks
Manuel

The Emax will boot from only certain hard disks. Also an Emax will only format it to 20 MB thats all. I have been sucessful with the Quantum ProDrive LPS out of old apple computers 40 or 80 MB versions but you will only be able to use 20 MB of it. You can get these on Ebay for about $10.00.

Thanks for your help.

I tried to use a iomezip 100Mb (plus os, correct SCSI ID) but
without success, it needs some type of termination?

Do you think a quantum lps 160mb is working too? , can emax boot
from them?

Thanks
Manuel

It sounds like you have nothing to loose by trying the 160MB drive. The external Zip has a problem because it can only be SCSI ID 5 or 6. The Plus OS needs SCSI ID zero I believe in order to boot up or at least thats been my experience. An internal Zip may do the trick as I had reports that Rob Keeble has used them sucessfully inside the Emax in place of the floppy Drive.
