Subject: Re: [emax] Emax HD/SE on Ebay, I know this is a stupid stupid question...
If it boots up, then the remaining things I could see as ANY possibility of being wrong (not that there is a problem with it)...
But the fact that it boots means the E-chip isn't dead.
And that is the ONLY chip that can't be replaced - as they aren't available.
Possible issues that could exist:
SCANNER CPU- not taking input from keys or buttons - this is available for about $60.
sections of keys themselves not taking input - this is fixable - often a broken connection or bad diode for section of keys...
Audio channel issues (noise / distortion / dead) - still fixable, parts are available.
MIDI /RS422 not working - these are controlled by common parts, also fixable….
I can't think of anything else….
Regards,
Ted
PS- Jammie is also on this board. if in Europe- he does repairs.
If in US- I do some repairs for people, but I am not a shop…. where EPR Electronics (who sells scanner CPU) is a shop.
They are on East Coast.
There also may be a shop in Los Angeles area that works on them.

I found one for sale on ebay, here is the thing...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/E-MU-Emax-HD-Harddrive-and-flopy-/200899383877?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec6895245
The opening bid was @ $175
So, I read the auction and bid. Basically he/she says that there was no further testing aside from the boot up and diagnostic testing. Secondly, they state since it's "32 lbs and extremely heavy"...they will not be responsible for damages during shipping.
Now, I placed a bid...but my curiosity got to me after. And I messaged the seller as to why they didn't test any further. And this is what was told to me.
"Dear xxxx,
the unit came without any disks this is why i could not test further
- salejl"
Yet, there are pictures of the unit with a disk in the drive AND the display shows a bank loaded!
I point this out and then they say that they could not test because there are no speakers on it and they don't have the means to test (no speakers or headphones)
So I am bidding expecting this thing to have damages. If I am stupid enough to win a bidding war...which I might be.
Is there any place I can send this out for repair.
I have been lusting an Emax for years... I wish it was a rack, but I have been seeing them pop up less and less lately.
