Emax

I just got a very cheap emax on Ebay, and after becoming a member here was able to upgrage it to SE, and all of my disks, or at least most of them read and will play..

The unit appears and sounds like everything is working except..

In boot up sometimes the backlight doesn't come on...

Sometimes it comes on, and then when I go to MASTER, it will turn off, and the top row of the LCD looks black, but it this case I can kind of see writing, and when I use the slider, it appears to be working...

Then a few minutes go by or if I hit another menu,  the LED and LCD will come back on and look normal...

I am wondering and reaching out here, but I am sure someone else has had this problem and might be able to point me in the right direction?

Is this the display, or something deeper..?

I know that when you have the floppy cable backwards this can happen, but that can't be the case because it is reading the floppy, and I used the floppy to upgrade to SE, so I wonder what it can be...
