"all the way to left" is not the same thing as setting the knob to the 12 mark . If you set the knob all the way to the left you'll have the problem the man who wants to recalibrate the unit will have, the fine knob won't do the trick. You do want the course knob somewhere near the 12, not all the way to the left-- but you may have to tweak it a bit (unless the unit has been modified or calibrated in a non-standard way). What the original poster doesn't say if he's overshooting or undershooting 12 notes per octave. The course knob should be able to take you from less than 12 notes to more than 12 notes over the bulk of the range. You want to find the sweet spot that lets the fine knob get it on the money. Now if the poster has the knob all the way down (which isn't quite right to start with), but he's still getting more (not less) than 12 notes, in other words the octave is too wide, then yes, there is need for a calibration. With its ability to track a little under and way over there shouldn't be a need for a user to calibrate it.
