Something important that may have bearing for the original
poster or anyone in the future reading this. "all the way to left" is
not the same thing as setting the knob to the 12 mark . If you set
the knob all the way to the left you'll have the problem the man
who wants to recalibrate the unit will have, the fine knob won't do
the trick.

You do want the course knob somewhere near the 12, not all the
way to the left-- but you may have to tweak it a bit (unless the unit
has been modified or calibrated in a non-standard way).

What the original poster doesn't say if he's overshooting or
undershooting 12 notes per octave. The course knob should be
able to take you from less than 12 notes to more than 12 notes
over the bulk of the range. You want to find the sweet spot that
lets the fine knob get it on the money. Now if the poster has the
knob all the way down (which isn't quite right to start with), but
he's still getting more (not less) than 12 notes, in other words
the octave is too wide, then yes, there is need for a calibration.
With its ability to track a little under and way over there shouldn't
be a need for a user to calibrate it.
