As I understand it, George designed the guitar controller and EML designed the electronics. The Syntar electronics became the core of the Syn-Key. George Mattson is subscribed to the Analog Heaven mailing list and has posted several articles containing great detail about the Syntar. And he's quite happy to answer questions about it. You might want to start by going back to the AH archives at: http://www.retrosynth.com/ah/search/search.cgi He still has some Syntar hardware bits, and within the last year he has assembled a Syntar from NOS parts and offered it for sale.
