hey rob - next question: is it somehow possible to load my sp12 samples into my emulatorII and vice versa??? as you know i recently bought a sp12 and i got some discs with it, too. i tried to load but the emulator said: "insert pref disk and press enter" i haven´t tried to load an EII sample into the sp12 because i´m still looking for an 1541-II-floppy. cheers - simon

Hi, Good try! No, unfortunately they are different sample rates (27,777 EII, 27,500 SP-12), different sample resolutions(8-bit companded EII, 12-bit linear SP-12) and diskette formats (sort of Unix, Commodore). Keep the questions coming! Its about 20 years ago since Dave Rossum started to design the Emulator II during a warm spring in Santa Cruz, shortly after the run away success of the Drumulator in early 1983.... well, thanx - did you ever get to know why the guys at emu didn´t make their machines compatible? i mean - someone who had the money to afford an EII back in the days, would have most likely a potential customer for an sp12, too...!!! so what the heck??? cheers, simon :-) --- In emulatorII-list@yahoogroups.com, "Rob Keeble" <rob@e...> wrote: > Hi, > Good try! Hi, The EII was based on the Emulator I in terms of sampling rate, etc. Scott and Dave took the opportunity to move up to 12-bits with the SP-12, and then 16-bits with the Emulator III in 1987. They couldn't use the EII sample scheme as it was rather expensive to implement in a drum machine, it would have put the price of the SP-12 up to $4000. Scott invented the touch sensitive pads on the SP-12 and patented the design. He has recently designed an in cockpit audio solution for light planes (which he flies over Monterey Bay), which he intends patenting - he is still inventing ! Of course Rossums latest design is the Audigy2. Rob well, thanx - did you ever get to know why the guys at emu didn\ufffdt make their machines compatible? i mean - someone who had the money to afford an EII back in the days, would have most likely a potential customer for an sp12, too...!!! so what the heck??? cheers, simon :-)
