Re: 2101/feedback

2007-08-01 by Gerry ODowd

I used to use my 2101 with a DOD dual 15 band graphic EQ, Mosvalve
962 power amp and a Marshall 412 with JBL's in a Latin Rock/JazzBand.
We played a lot of classic Santana, and I was able to tweak the EQ to
the room, so I could do the Santana feedback thing......
It completely rocked-Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Nobody To Depend
On,and all that Santana lead stuff. Feedback for days!!!!
The 2101 is way capable of relly cool controlled feedback if you
tweak the EQ's just right. Using a rack mounted Graphic EQ gave me
hands on the sliders at all times.
We packed a little club in LA full of Chicano Rock fans!!!!

boogie diehards)and im a major boogie fan(especially the rectifiers!)
best combo i've tried so far is a 2101 and a marshall 9200 tried
2101 with carvin t100 and wasn't as good but usable lol! only major
complaint i have on 2101 is uncontroled feedback(unless your 300ft
away from amp) on distortion presets noise gate has to be set to high
to eliminate problem then it doesn't allow me to have enough sustain
or cuts notes/chords off to soon!

bashing gear....... I just picked up a Marshall JMP-1 and a
Vox Valvetronix 100 watt head to goof with in the studio. The vox was
beyond loud and had very usable sounds strikingly close to what amps
it simulates. Plus it has a power attinuator to get that cranked
sound at lower volumes. The VOX was $310 used and kicked the JMP's
butt! The JMP-1 did have one creamy lead tone where the tube
distortion was smooth and shredable. How ever when I plugged back
into the 2101 I put the JMP-1 on eBay. Next I need to try the
Piranha and Triaxis. Nothing I prefer better than the 2101 so
far..... Anyone have the new 1101? I would imagine Harmon would go
cookie cutter over tone any day $$$.
