Hi Dwayne,
Before fixing the S-DISC problem, the 2101 was
essentially unusable - the "cannon" noise would just appear randomly out of
nowhere. And it happened frequently enough that using it in a live gig
situation or a recording session was out of the question.
Changing the crystal from 10MHz to 20 MHz has 2
noticeable effects. (1) When turning the 2101 on, it boots up much faster
and (2) switching patches is much faster.
You can find instructions for performing these
upgrades and many more at Dieter's web site:
His web site is actually not completely current -
lots of pages still under construction, but he did post many fixes/upgrades in
the now defunct gsp-users group on Yahoo Groups. The old messages are
archived and can be searched at two different places:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gsp-users/messages (for messages from 1997 - 2002)
http://www.bstage.com/gsp_html/gsp_search.html (for
messages thru 1999)

I have (6) 2101LE's and other than keeping them in perfect repair and writing most all of my own patches they haven't been altered. I am a professional session guitarist and use a 2101 at least 14 to 18 hours a day in the studio and it performs like a tank (not a single failure ever with any of the units). Obviously being a 2101 user and lover I look for any tricks and techniques to improve and extend the life of my units. I welcome any communication from anyone having an upper edge to making these amazing boxes sing even better. Thanks....Dwayne BarkerBarker Recording Studio, Inc.----- Original Message -----From: Steve HSent: Saturday, April 13, 2002 9:19 PMSubject: [gsp-2101] GSP-2101 ModsI just wanted to report that I recently used some of Dieter's upgrade plans
to mod my 2101 with great success:
I upgraded my 2101 from 10MHz to 20MHz and also fixed the "Incorrect
S-DISC" cannon
problem by swapping the PPC S-DISC with the main board S-DISC. Works
great now!!
Thanx to Dieter!
Steve
