Upgrading to 3.00.00 will toss all your old patches out the window.
If you want to keep your old patches, you'll have to back them up by dumping them into your computer system using the MIDI ports and an interface for your computer. You'll need software to do this as well. I've never used it, but there is freeware at
www.midiox.com that might handle the sysex dump from your 2101 into your computer for safe keeping. Another app for this is Sysex97. If you have MIDI sequencing software like Cakewalk or Logic Audio, those apps should be able to handle a bulk dump on there own. Check out some of the 2101 web sites out there for any other suggestions or instructions for your bulk sysex (system exclusive) files dump. I have to confess that I've never dumped my 2101 into my system. It's never happened only for the fact that I've never had them (my sys and my 2101) in the same room at the same time. So, I can't tell you what works best. The EPROM swap will kill and replace all your previous patches. But your old patches should run fine on the new 3.00.00 software when and if you dump them back into your upated 2101.
Since you're going to be poking around the guts of your 2101. You might as well check to see if the 2101's clock is running at 20 MHz and not 10 MHz. Dieter has a fix for this if you find your 2101 is set to run at 10 MHz. I performed this fix on my 2101 myself and it made a big difference. The speed of patch changes and the response of the CC pedal on the 2101 pedal board is much appreciated. It's just a matter of swapping out a capacitor and a timing crystal, and a little soldering. Power it up and look for the display to read 3.00.00 a . The ( a ) tells you that you are running at 20 MHz.
Its a great upgrade for your 2101.
Good Luck !
