Yes, I will certainly be more cautious on eBay in the future. In any event I
opened up all of my digitech processors yesterday. My original unit that had
the ppc-210 I bought and installed back in '96, the new one from the eBay
purchase with no ppc-210, and the TSR24S I bought with the ppc-200 upgrade
installed. Then I looked at the ppc-200 in comparison with the ppc-210. They
look identical. The board, standoffs, every component, solder connection and
chip. So anyway I took a great risk and popped the ppc-200 in the new 2101.
So far it seems to work fine. I emailed digitech and they said the boards
are not compatible. I emailed them again and asked why not because it seemed
to work fine (what would be the long term ill effects?). They said

"If it is working, fine, but there are some board component differences that
distiguised them from each other...they were not suppose to be
interchangeable"

I suspect the boards are one and the same. Any thoughts?

Also, I noticed that the chips in both the ppc cards have "sdisc ii" on
them, not "VLSI". On Dieters site he strongly suggests the chips must be the
VLSI type. I also noticed on his site that there is a chart of revisions of
the 2101. In the chart there is a point where the 2101's begin using sdisc
ii (software 2.00.xx). Here's the thing. My 2101's both have VLSI chips on
the motherboard and sdisc ii chips on the ppc's. This leads me to believe
that if digitech still has sdisc ii chips available that the ppc cards can
still be manufactured (if by a private party). I could be all screwed up
here and if so someone correct me. My friend builds boutique guitar pedals
and could possible help in the manufacture of these ppc cards. Just thought
I'd throw that out there.

When you buy off ebay, you have to buy from people that have an excellent
feedback rating and many transactions if the purchase is of upmost
importance as yours was. It should be over 100 transactions and no more than
one or two bad feedback per every 100 transactions. The negative feedbacks
should tend to look more like the other person's fault and not the guy
selling what you want or at the very least an honest mistake by the seller.

I see then it appears there are a few souls on the list. I bought my
gsp-2101 new back in the mid 90's. It's the chrome face Artist Pro with a
ppc-210 installed I purchased at the same time. Recently I attempted to
purchase an identical unit on eBay as a backup. At the same time my own unit
died completely. I just pressed the power button and it lit up for a second
and then went completely dark. Of course this happened days before an
important gig. My backup has not yet arrived (another horrible story about
paying for 2nd day shipping and not receiving item for 3 weeks). Anyway, it
ended up being the transformer inside the 2101. Apparently the coils will
eventually open and it will cease to work. A new transformer was about
$40usd and I paid a guy $60usd to put it in. So if any of you have similar
experience (1. sudden death of 2101, 2. no blown fuse) I would suspect the
transformer. In fact having a spare transformer handy might not be a bad
idea. Anyway back to the story. In my panic of approaching gig and no 2101 I
ran out and purchased a TSR24S. This is basically a 2101 with only the
digital section and no tubes, analog eq, compression or distortion. Nice
unit. It came with a ppc-200 upgrade. I was going to use this with an ADA
MP1 I had lying around and actually it wasn't too bad except for the popping
noise between patch changes from the MP1. So ended up with my repaired 2101
back (all patches intact YAY!), and my TSR24S setup. Now I have received the
other 2101 (finally!). The listing on eBay had described an 'LE' model with
255 presets and seamless patch changes but of course when I plugged it in
guess what. 240 presets. I am pissed. No ppc-210. But ok here's my question
hopefully you are still reading.

Can I somehow use the ppc-200 from the TSR24S in the 2101?

I believe they are both sdisc i. I am willing to make a new circuit board if
necessary. Could it be possible that this is a simple 'bolt right up' type
of exchange? Anyone who has any knowledge of these units your advice would
be greatly appreciated. Or, if anyone has a working email address to Dieter.
I know he was a guru with both these units.

Thanks guys.
