I've used the 2101 with EMG 81's and 85's for years and if anything they work better than passive pickups. I've only ever used the rear input and I never get wierd noises or feedback and I use about as much gain as you can get out of the 2101...

No probs.
But if you use factory-preset-patches, you'll will get a clipping, because of the high output from EMGs.
You have to turn the volume-knob (on the guitar) back a little. Or you program your own Patches.
You should not use the rear input, if you want high valve distortion, because the rear input causes a hard feedback, because the coax-cable which runs from the rear-input to the frontside runs beneath the valves...
