No such luck. Distortion is one of
the 6 modules that is automatically inserted at the beginning of each
algorithm. You can't add to or remove any of these modules. You can,
however, bypass the analog modules.
The chain at the beginning of each algorithm is
as follows, in this order:
1. Analog Compressor
2. Analog Distortion
3. Analog Graphic EQ
4. Master Volume
5. External FX Loop
6. Stereo Noise Gate

I don't believe that is possible. You can place a distortion device in the fx loop and then be able to bring it in and out of the signal chain..

I used to do that, just really pile on the distortion. Then I learned that yeah it sounds cool & brutal and all in the bedroom or at Guitar Center but all that layered on distortion goes from cool to stool at volume on stage.
I recommend a live distortion that sounds a couple of clicks below that wicked one we think is the "perfect" distortion. The live, full band mix, with all of its inherent noisiness, works best with a slightly dialed back distortion IMO.
Just my 2 ¢...and I bleed metal not Tom Petty or john Mayer....lol

So true. Less is often more. I've also found that a very smooth and awesome sounding guitar tone solo gets lost in the mix and a sometimes harsh sounding tone suddenly mellows out to perfect in the mix. Sometimes it's best to create the tone in the mix.
