Paul Gilbert patch & Tube replacement

Paul Gilbert patch & Tube replacement

2014-10-10 by mr.aguia@...

Is there a Paul Gilbert patch available? New to the 2101 and having trouble getting the sound I want. Want a lot more high end. None of the pre-sets are working for me. Have a 2.0.01a but I ordered the 3.0 upgrade & it will arrive next week. Considering replacing the distortion tube if it will help. Any recommendations?

Try a delay at .001 or. 002 seconds of delay at 100% level, only 1 repeat. It kinda thickens the ‎the string attack.

Changing out the preamp tubes could do something ‎for that but that's a whole other box of worms. There's something of an art to picking the ideal preamp tubes for your desired tone. Just watch out for tubes that are microphonic.

Many 2101ers swear by using a 15 band EQ to finely tune & filter your tone.

Other than that I would also recommend a super stiff pick like a 1mm or thicker Dunlop Tortex III. My preference is the 1.35mm (black). Paul has a hell of an attack on those strings.

Yngwie has a sharp attack as well but he plays 8's which is an ultra light ‎.

Just some suggestions from a fellow shredder.

Thanks. I use the Petrucci Dunlop picks myself. Thanks for the tip on the delay. I did notice it was thickening the tone.

I use the white Clayton .80mm. I could swear they make me PLAY better. Otherwise a Fender medium is fine. I also use wimpy EB Super Slinky's. Goin on ~30 yrs. Yeah I'm old. I'd prolly have to quit playing if EB went out of business.

I started using the EB super slinky's back in '97 so I'm old too.
