Re: Newbie with patch upload question

2011-07-19 by somethingkillingyou

you know what? I have the same problem with my quasimidi raven ('96) and sirius ('98)... any time I try to send back sequencer data (quite large compared to the K5) I get weird "remixes" of my songs (actually, they end up sounding like random compositions)... I'm using midiox a/o bome's send sysex program... tried with different dump speed, using my firewire audio/midi interface or a (cheap) midi to usb cable... nothing! I guess I need to find an older pc to do this stuff...

The first time I tried to upload a patch, it worked. I can't do a whole bank at a time, but I can get some new sounds in there to replace some lame ones. I don't know why I can't get a sysex into the k5 using my trimmed down Gateway running XP, on which I regularly run Ableton Live with up to 8 different key and midi controllers without problems. But since uploading patches is what I do the lease with my setup, I'll gladly just grab the clunker to upload something occassionally, and focus on what I want to do -- make music!

Compared to the menu-diving rigors of my D-50 or Miniak (with just one knob to control everything!), the page system with a larger display is a joy. The tutorial in the manual was very helpful. It's a different kind of machine, for sure. I hope I can get as much use out of it as my others.

I'm able to do dumps of the bank that's already in there and I now have backups of the data from both programs (Midiquest's is proprietary). And when I open a patch in Midiquest, I'm able to change the parameters in the patch and change the sounds. I haven't tried saving the changes yet . . . .

So I used that patch to experiment with, knowing a copy was elsewhere in machine memory. Somehow, though, and I don't know when or how, patch 1 in bank A was accidentally overwritten -- by "Jupiter". So now I have three copies. So I was able to upload at least one patch; probably with the Kfuenf program.
