in display or EL foil is bad. Measure tis high voltage directly on
display contacts.
If there's a voltage, then you have to change EL foil for the new one.

I have very good experience with their products and service.
It seems that display is of standard type and could be replaced by
modern one with LED backlight if there's enough space inside the
machine. It needs some modification of circuit, soldering the
connector, and removing inverter.

the connector on the k5 is backwards what should be
pin 1 is not as the idc socket has the notch on the wrong way round
so if changing m,ake sure your checking the
connections correctly
i buy my backlight from japan £5 + £2 postage
from an ebay seller ill get the link for
you
the reason why your not getting whine with your
dead backlight is that its still providing enough resistance so the invertor
does not whie
so you have to be careful when transplanting a new
display thay you connect correctly
the newhaven led backlight lcd displays that fit
the sy99/t1/wavestation/k2000 will fit
