K5R problem

K5R problem

2004-01-28 by stratos731

I finally dug out my K5R after a move and discovered that I can't
access all the menu pages. I was told that maybe the ribbon cable
from the CPU to the screen had been jarred loose. Would this be easy
to fix? As I'm not technically inclined, should I take it to a tech?
Any answers would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

What do you mean by not able to access all menus?

Are you sure it's not only non-working buttons?(Non working need to be
cleaned)

If it would have been the cable between mainboard and screen, your
screen would have been all messed up.

Your K5m might need a reset. (remove the lithium battery and then
replace it).

My K5 before reset was like this(Have done this today):
-If PGM was at multi in the MIDI menu, when I clicked Single or Multi,
I was brought to Multi.
-Sound popped and was unstable,
-And this morning, when I clicked multi, the K5's mainboard was
making noise and pixels were gradually filling the screen.

If you reset it, you will need to redownload the sounds. You can get
midis on http://www.kawaius.com/ website containing the sounds.

You should bring it to a tech and tell him that it needs to:
-Get the buttons cleaned,
-add more solder on the two power supply board(MI-010 and MI-011),
-Change the lithium battery
-Also, if there is no green backlight on the screen, ask to replace it
(optional since it's supposed to be something like 40 euros, I only
know the european price, I live in Canada, and maybe it will return
to life by adding solder to the Power Supply boards)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
