The only problem is that it's a pain to configure it. "jbrave" <onephatcat@...> wrote: >Great, looking forward to it! > >Joel > __________________________________________________________________ New! Hopefully it is worth the pain! It will be good to have all the tools available for K5 users in one place. Joel ----- Original Message -----

Hello:
Okay, okay and okay again. Now, we all in theory "know" thanks
to Antoine that DosBox exits, but would any of you who have now
figured it out care to share just how one makes Overtone work (e.g.
specific commands in the DOSBOX configuration text file) in windows
using a USB Midi interface or any other interface?
In the past all I had to do was to give overtone the Port address and
the IRQ I was using and it would work flawlessly. But since I moved on
to a faster computer that no longer works.
Help...
Thanks in advance;

Unfortunately, it can't be used ... Instructions for MIDI out : 1. Start DOSbox 2. Type mixer /listmidi 3. Get the number corresponding to the device you want to use 4. In dosbox.conf, under [midi], set "config=" to that deivce number The problem is that there's no MPU-401 midi input support... metaphor20032003 a crit :

But I saw that you can at least load it in Windows XP's cmd.exe. Maybe VDMSound would work? Antoine Deschnes a crit :

Hello to all:
Because I thought it could maybe be beneficial to anyone
trying to get goin with Overtone, I wanted to report how I finally got
it to work again.
1. System: An "old" Dell Dimension XPS P166s with ISA slots and only
32 Meg of RAM running Windows 98.
2. An "old" Sound Quest PC MIDICARD version 2 set to IRQ 7 at address
300.
Notes: (a)The same system with a USB Midi Interface whlile using
another K5 editor (e.g. Terzoid Noize) caused problems in
the handshake with K5 and would never complete the upload
and/or the download hence yet worked with another ISA MIDI
interface (e.g. MIDIMAN 1x1). My conclusion was the enhanced
speed via the USB port was too fast for the K5 and caused
buffer problems.
(b) Because Overtone is a DOS based program whatever interface
you decide to use will have to have the appropriate DOS drivers.
(c) Although I got my MIDI card to work with IRQ 7 at address
300, you will have to set your card to whatever IRQ and
address are free and available in your specific system.
Special Thanks again to both Antoine and to Joel.
Yours;

Great, you got it going! My new computer can't handle it anymore. It's running WinXP and has no ISA slots... Gotta try my MusicQuest in my Pentium III 800 to see if it works! metaphor20032003 a crit :
