Maybe a piano that sound less bad than the ones that are in the default patches?(Like the SoundFont ones)

Re: New Files

2004-04-22 by ohsinairam

Hi,
I've never loaded patches using Sysex before, so I wanted some info
before potentially erasing anything on the K5:

- To load, you have to open the .mid file in the sequencer, run it,
and that's it?
- To which bank in the K5 does it load the patch? SIA-1 by default?
(Dr. T's and K5 Pro load to SID-12, I think) What about if the Sysex
info has more than one patch, say a whole bank?

Thanks!

Yup. You need to make sure the K5 is set up to receive system
exclusive messages. This can be done via the MIDI menu.

> - To which bank in the K5 does it load the patch? SIA-1 by

No, unfortunately. The patch number is part of the sysex data
itself. So if I sent patch SIA-11, for example, to my sequencer as a
system exclusive message and later sent the message back to the K5,
it would save it to SIA-11.

If you know how to edit the system exclusive data, some sequencers
let you do this, and you know which byte to change, you can change
the patch number at the sequencer before sending the message to the
K5.

One thing I should point out, the MIDI files I've uploaded with
multiple patches, such as the K3 and DW8000 waveform files, have
multiple single patches saved as system exclusive data. I spread
these messages out about a measure or so from one another. If you
set up your K5 to receive sysex data and play one of these MIDI
files to the end, it will overwrite many of the existing patches you
have in memory. So make sure you have any patches you want to keep
backed up before playing one of these files with your sequencer.

Ok thanks, I'll try this tonight.

New Files

2004-07-23 by Les

I've uploaded a new patch to the K3 Resynthesis folder as a MIDI
file. It's called K3NEWAGE.mid. To download the patch, go here:

Files > Patch Library > Leslie Sanford > K3 Resynthesis

It's a real spacey patch that makes heavy use of the K5's filter.
I've also uploaded an mp3 file demonstrating the patch.

Re: New Files

2004-07-24 by Les

> Files > Patch Library > Leslie Sanford > K3 Resynthesis

In addition, I've uploaded a coupla string patches, K3STRG02.mid and
K3STRG03.mid, using the resynthesized version of the K3's resonant
strings waveform. One has a dark sound and the other is a bit
brighter.

Nothing spectacular, just some solid string sounds to use as pads
and such.

Also, I redid the K3BASS01.mid patch. I tweaked it a bit to make it
more realistic.

great sound! I wish i could send the patches intoo my k5m! I still
didn´t found out how to send midi data to it. What program do you use
for that. For me the best way to dump patches is that dr.T editor on

I send the patches to my sequencer, which is the Notator program for the
Atari ST. I save the sequence as a standard MIDI file.

To receive patches, I make sure the protect switch is turned off on the back
of the K5. I turn the omni mode on in the MIDI section (dunno if that's
necessary, but I do it anyway), and set the K5 to send and receive system
exclusive messages. Then I play back the MIDI file with the saved K5 patch.

What I used to send songs(In .mid format) to my K5 before: Windows Media
Player. To make it able to send data to the K5, you go into control
panel, then Multimedia/Audio options, then in default MIDI devices, you
select your MIDI interface/External MIDI. Now, what I use is
SoundDiver(A lot simpler).

When I told you how to configure the K5, I forgot to tell you that
configuration resets to default when you close it. Also, you should have
your MIDI in and out connected to your computer(And configurated in your
program).

Also, does multi still freezes it?

Re: New Files

2004-07-25 by phonophobie

Hey, thanks for the tips - i didn´t know mediaplayer is able to send
midi to an external device. I will try to send midi files later this
evening.

What did you mean by "configuration resets to default when you close
it" ... do you mean i have to stay in the k5m midi-window? i am not
sure if i did this every time..hmmm

about the Multicrashes.: I found a solution for that strange crashes.
I have a RAMcard, and when the K5m crashed, all i have to do is, turn
it back on, access the Multisection on the Card.. and everything is
fine after that. However it still crashes from time to time, and i
loose my programmings then. The best way for me is, to use dr.T
editor. Which is brilliant!

BtW: My Backlight is dark all the time now.

ok. i managed it to transfer midi patches to my k5m. Thanks again for
the sounds. I like that vector mp3 in the files section a lot. did you
made a midi file of it?

Unfortunately, no. I don't have the patches any more either, but it
shouldn't be too hard to recreate. I'll put a new version together in a day
or two. :-)
