the slider does matteras well as the wrong type will work wrongwhat type was the slider was it a new one as if its a desoldered part it might also be faultyas it sounds to me like the same problem i had with a k2000 and korg trinitywith badly worn slidersit would be stereo on the half way mark but when at full volume it would only come out of the left channelon the trinity if i pluged a cable in either left or right channel i would get audio but if i plug cables in both i would only get audio in one channelboth were bad sliders on changing for the correct type which was 2x10ka audio taper types they were okbut some use the linear types for the audio levelas it was full volume before but no adjustment and now its not working correctlyi would say its a bad slider or wrong typeif you live in uk there is a parts seller on ebay that has the k4 slider boardthere supposed to be 2x10kb types in the k4 and the c1 100uf cap is the link to ground so if it has failed then you would lose ground to the faderjust check the slider types and check for cold solder joints----- Original Message -----From: Brian HintzeSent: Saturday, April 05, 2014 12:30 PMSubject: Re: [kawaisynths] K4 Volume Slider...help pleaseI ordered the exact part from Syntaur. All contact points line up with the circuit board for the volume slider, so I assumed it was the correct one.
In your opinion, is it the wrong slider or is it the capacitor as another person said? He said to replace the 100uF capacitor, because if its bad, then wont work as it acts as a ground for the slider.-Brian

wrong sliderwhat one did you fit----- Original Message -----From: Brian HintzeSent: Saturday, April 05, 2014 12:09 AMSubject: [kawaisynths] K4 Volume Slider...help pleaseHello all,
I recently purchased a K4. Good condition, except the volume slider
does nothing...all sounds seem at maximum volume.
I then replaced the slider with a new one from Syntaur...only the
slider, as they are out of the complete volume slider assembly.
The new slider still does not affect the volume, but......when all the
way down, sound from both left and right, but sounds kind of flat or
monophonic.
When you slide up the volume slider, then the sound starts to separate
and more stereo effect....weird, yes?
Any suggestions? Some where, something is messed up.
I can always edit the volume from within each sound, then save the
patch, but it's not the same...and would like the volume slider to work
as should.
ANY help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Brian

The part is new.
After soldering the slider to the board, we checked with a multimeter to make sure it was working properly...in the electrical sense anyways.
At one end, the meter reads zero, and increases as you slide it up. We checked what we thought were the left and right channels part of the slider connections, and seemed ok.
I am thinking this is the correct slider because all the contact solder points line up and everything else looks the same....but that can be deceiving, especially to someone like me with no good knowledge.
Should I try replacing the capacitor to see if helps? Or, that is not the problem at all?
Sound is outputting to both left and right individually, so thats working correctly......I have no idea! Argh!
I have been going through the patches and lowering the level parameters to around 15 instead of 80-100....so the sound does not distort.
It works, but what a pain in the butt....tedious.
