Difference between K1r and K1r II?

Difference between K1r and K1r II?

2005-04-02 by synthflake

I'm new, and have a K1r II in the mail. Currious as to the differences
between the K1r and K1r II? I have been looking for something different
and inexpensive to add to my synth setup. After reading and hearing
(mp3s) of the K1, I feel it's worth a try. My other units are: Arp Axxe
+ Little Brother, Yamaha AN1x, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Yamaha DX7iiFD,
Yamaha TG500, Korg 03R/W, Korg Wavestation SR, EMu Esi2000. So as you
see I got the analog thing covered (the AN1x and Obie layer very
nicely), the ROMplers (TG500 and 03R/W) are workhorses and are
different sounding, the DX7 is additive FM heaven but may layer nicely
with the K1. And the EMu takes care of vintage key sounds along with
drums and Hammonds and anything else. Currious as to what setups others
are using the K1s with?

I believe the main difference between the K1r and the K1rII is that
the mkII has a PCM drum section. (It's nothing very exciting.) Other
than that, the K1rII has a slightly different (newer?) BIOS.

Cool, I also have an Oberheim Matrix 1000 and a Wavestation EX. Good
instruments. Ironically enough, I like my K1 for a Leslie B3 organ
patch it can produce. But, it absolutely rules for lo-fi digital synth
textures and ambience.

I thin the K1r II has drums and on board effects. I have a K1r and it is OK for producing some mysterious sounds. But I think you will find it sitting unused considering your other gear. I have 15 or so synths also. I sold my DX7s after getting a TG77. It rules over the DX7 for FM sounds. Also the DX7 does not come close to the additive sounds of the Kawai K5 since the DX7 is FM. The Kawai K5000 is the king of additive (I have one). I with I had your Oberheim.
Have fun with the K1r. If you need a manual I can send you one. You may want to try a Casi VZ1 for and interesting mix of FM and pulse width distortion sound.
