Using Kawai K4 as a Controller Keyboard?

Using Kawai K4 as a Controller Keyboard?

2005-07-26 by mikebreault85

I think if there's anywhere on the net to get answers about these
Synths it's this group.

Alright, I just picked up this Synth off a friend (K4), it was dusty
and looked as if it hadn't been used in decades. I went to a music
store and bought a computer midi cable so I could hook it into my PC.
At first I pluged it into an amp and try it out, I could only get it to
produce just one tone. There's no card for it either. I thought there
were onboard samples but I guess not, unless I have everything all
twisted.

Anyways, I want to try and use this Synth as a midi controler keyboard
for controlling music software, like Reason or FruityLoops. Is this
possible? Do I need to have the keyboard on a certain setting to output
midi keys?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I think I'm asking the right
people. Thanks

Mike.

Yeah, that's odd. Could it be that the battery has died and the
internal patch bank has been cleared to the 'initial' patch?

Yes, it's possible to use the K4 as a MIDI controller keyboard. I
believe its default settings will transmit MIDI, possibly on midi
channel #1. I believe it IS possible to disable MIDI transmission on
the K4 through its configuration menus, so if you have problems, you
may need to check that the prior owner didn't disable MIDI messages
there (this is unlikely).

Good luck!
