K4r Ram cards

K4r Ram cards

2004-07-22 by narfman96

Wow! Nobody has posted anything since May???
Does anyone know the exact details of the ram cards for this K4r
synth module. I bought one from an auction and will get it soon. I
should be able to edit the patches with my Unisyn program. Also I
see that JSynthLib (free) has a K4/K4r editor now. This will be my
7th synth module (mostly Roland and Yamaha). I seem to be able to
find these ram cards for 35 to 40 bucks from surplus suppliers but I
don't know enough of the details to know if they will work for this
box. I may even have the batteries for the cards. Any help would be
appreciated. Thank you, Narfman - Narfland Studios

Yeah, it's been quiet. Too quiet. :)

Well, the Kawai K4/K4r accepts the Kawai DC-32 RAM card. It
effectively doubles your patch memory from four to eight banks of
sixteen. IA-1 through ID-16 and EA-1 through ED-16. Though don't quote
me on this, I believe these use something like the standard lithium
non-rechargable 'coin' style 3.6v batteries. I don't really want to
open mine up and check, since I may lose my patches if I do so. :)

There are also ROM cards from Kawai-- there may be third-party ROM
cards as well, though I know of no third-party RAM cards offhand.

Good luck with what sounds like you're new K4. Be sure to check out
some of the SysEx format patches for it in the file section of this
Yahoo Groups group. You can get some surprisingly rich sounds out of
the K4, considering its age/price.
