faulty K1rII symptoms

faulty K1rII symptoms

2017-01-19 by domgoold@...

i've got a very clean new-looking K1rII which unfortunately has

a problem - the sounds/waves don't play back properly, they

seem to randomly cross modulate with others at different points

on the keyboard. the sound is nearly clean sometimes but then

you hit a key and it's obviously wrong. have reloaded factory

sysex, and the battery still measures 3.16v or something similar.

(did the sysex with 2way connection too, in case)

so i put it away wondering what to do about it, not able to get more

info - other than that the proprietary chip can go bad (which one?)

and nothing can be done about it. ...

but i had another listen the other day, and tried muting operators,

and found that a waveform still sounds if you turn off the operator,

and that the envelopes have no effect. this is where the fault seems

to be appearing; need to have another look to see if i can pinpoint

anything consistent other than that.

does this ring any bells for anyone ?! :-)

i don't think i could fix it anyway; maybe someone here is interested

in this unit - if in europe, from postage point of view, although i'll

send it anywhere, if you pay. i would like to recoup my costs though.

France.
um, it has cost me 60eu.

dunno: SQLguy did an amazing job on that thread cannibalizing
a K1m for the part, and changing all three chips in the end
before finding the correct one. so maybe very feasible.

i've replaced it already with a k1r with a simple stereo out.
having 4 outs would really be nice on that machine but 2 is ok
as well.

It is really interesting info from the real expert, he even could get relevant information about chips from the side of Kawai, that‘s surprising. Japanese firms usually don't have spare parts for products older than 10 years (that's Japanese law).

So good luck with reviving this nice machine, you have a chance to do it successfully.

you think i should just stash it until i get an opportunity
to fix it? :-) it's not very big... and it does have those
individual ouputs.

i'm totally nuts about the working one.
