Yahoo announcement

This is insane:

All members please note.

Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 21, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.

Does anyone know of a way to just download everything so I can sort out the stuff I want/need at my leisure?

I can’t promise anything but if I can pay my web hosting account maybe I can make a place (an FTP area) to store the files.

How much space does it presently use?

I've got masses of space on a server, and I'm working on getting stuff
off the groups - including this one - downloaded. It currently costs me
about 30 quid a month, but I use it for other stuff so it's kind of
"already paid for".

If it suddenly got absolutely hammered with traffic to the point where
the costs became noticeable, then I don't know, I'd stick a google ad on
it or Patreon or something.

Maybe backing up to Amazon S3 is a goer, too.

Hey guys, hope this goes through (for some reason my web browser won't let me comment on the post while online – already!)

I just wanted to point out that I pay one dollar a month for a website with unlimited storage space. However, you have absolutely no support – and that's their selling point! If you haven't heard of this fantastic hosting service, please check out:

You'll have the same familiar control panel as most Web servers, as well as limited shell access! You can't start any new processes, but you can manage your files from the command line if you are very old-school (like me – ha).

As long as you make backups of everything, you don't have to worry about support, right? I've used them for years. (Of course I was and Advanced Software Engineer, by title.)

Best regards,

It won’t let me download any of the files for any of the groups I am in.. very frustrating.

Thanks,
Dom

It appears that the photos and files together take about 60MB. Not a
whole lot.

I've got them on my server now, and will stick them up later.

I will make an archive of this entire group (also using PG Offline). Since the email list will still work for a bit anyways I can stay in touch.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
