Power supply overheating

Power supply overheating

2015-09-07 by freb101@yahoo.com

Hi there,

a few minutes after I power up my Mono/Poly, the back-panel (where there's the big white KORG logo) become very hot. After 20/30 minutes it's so hot I can barely keep my hand on it. I have no functional problems at the moment but I suspect this could lead me to future issues.

What do you guys think? Do you think it could be a "only partially" working component in the power supply that is causing the problem?

Thank you

Hmmm mine doesn’t get that hot at all. It sounds like the voltage reg./transistors in the power supply have to dissipate a lot of wattage? What kind of voltage source do you connect the M/P to? 240 volts?

Jeppe

Hi Jeppe,

yes the voltage source is 240volts. Do you suggest any particular measurement inside the Mono/Poly to have some more info?

I Had a 240v monopoly that got also very warm. This is "normal".
However I did change the power supply to something similar and now it is much much cooler.

Hey i have this same issue. I have mine at a tech shop getting fitted with Midi and having the voltage converted to 120v. I will let you know as soon as I get it back to see if that has quelled the heat problem
