Didn't see a reply to this one, sorry for late reply, haven't checked this mail
account for a while...
Yep, those pads allow a direct solder for adding a backup battery.  Very
straightforward.  Can't remember the details for what type of battery etc., but
looks like you already have that info anyway.
So yeah, just solder one in!  ; )
