       Hey all,

My actual name's Mike Marcus, I joined the
group because I just bought an EX-800 (via Reverb.com). I
only started using it yesterday, so all I've been able
to do so far is go through the presets and figure out how to
change settings. When I first connected the unit, it was
doing this thing where the sound it was putting out was
extremely faint. I could barely make out anything at all,
either with headphones or via the line outs. After trying a
number different things, unplugging and re-plugging in the
cables, powercycling the unit, cursing a bit, it started
playing at a reasonable volume. What's odd is that
turning the volume knob doesn't seem to have an effect
on the level, at least until I turn it completely off. I
also noticed the occasional noise, which could be a scratchy
pot. However, when I was first trying to get volume out of
it, I didn't hear any scratching when I turned the knob.
My question is this: could shipping the EX-800 have jostled
it, setting something loose in the process? Is there
anything I should look for? Do you have any recommendations
for going over a unit like this? I was thinking I might take
some DeoxIT to the knobs. All in all it appears to be in
 excellent condition.

 I was
planning on doing the various mods (HAWK-800, AtomaHawk, not
sure what else yet) eventually anyway, so I'm not averse
 to opening the thing up.

 Thanks for the add,
 - Mike
