Best bet for removing multi-pin parts is ChipQuik alloy (or similar). Remove as much solder as possible, melt some ChipQuik on each pin, run the soldering iron over all the pins one last time and the alloy will stay liquid for a few seconds so the chip can all be removed at once. You won't ever need that eeprom again. And even if you did, there's plenty around extra or you can get one burned for you.
