Re: [korgpolyex] Late! install of v1.3 hawkmod in ex800

I would recommend a brass wool type pad for cleaning the soldering iron tip. Poke it in few times while it’s hot and it should come out shiny clean. Filing is a bit drastic.

i've got a kit with two ribbon with male DIL connectors at either end, one for IC29, one for IC22.

then a plastic casing with 4 small ICs. i will have to go through the BOM later and check off.

board is v1.3 - and i got it from you ages ago - Feb 2011 :-D only 8&1/2yrs to get round to this...

DONE. dougie fresh you're on.

i cracked on in the meantime, cutting out the 28-pin DIL. boy, that IS a messy job.

took great care with that - and i would say NOT to cut any pins themselves, because

it doesn't leave anything to pinch with pliers as you desolder them.

cleaning out the holes was tricky, until i figured out the correct way to do it.

i've learnt something today (please correct if wrong): desoldering braid/wick:

you're supposed to use that with flux, aren't you? at least that's what proved effective:

dip it in flux, and then when heated, the solder flows into the braid as it sizzles.

this seemed to draw the solder out of the holes. completed with a little poke with a

sewing needle. what the correct way to do this ?

that was actually my problem this morning/the other day: my soldering iron was covered in carbon.

it needed flux and a bit of a clean (small metal file).

i think i need a bit of a tutorial about proper solng practice, tbh ;-)

new DIL back in, re-seated the old eeprom, and... it still works !

cleaner job this time (we won't talk about the other one, but it's ok, want to leave that alone now).

so that's the mainboard modification completed

Q: what is the spare white header/connector? CN5A ?.
