Poly 800 MKII

Poly 800 MKII

2004-10-06 by bluecontrabass

Just got the battery replaced on my Poly, and unfortunately it lost
all of it memory in the process. I never had to use the tape backups
before, but now its pretty helpful to be able to do that.
Unfortunately, I can't get my keyboard to respond to any kind of
input. I know that my cable is putting out signal (I hear the lovely
model-like screetch through headphones and see the voltage on my
multimeter) but I can't get a GOOD or ERR indication. It just sits
there and taunts me with the LOAD display. Maybe I'm inexperience at
this, or maybe I'm just dumb, could be both. So I tried the reverse
by programming a few sounds in by hand and then trying to save these
to tape. The display says SAVE but I get no output out of the jack.
I can't see anything on my level meters or on multimeter measuring
directly off of the out jack. I have followed my manual and tried a
dozen different cable configurations and patches with the same
result. Am I just this dumb? Help!

Nate

The output needs to be LOUD. Crank the volume all the way up and see if you can't get it to respond. On mine the LEDs sort of pulse when it's receiving data.

Tried that. Ran it out of my soundblaster live cranked all the way
and then out of my Edirol USB interface and still nothing. It nearly
blows my headphones it gets so loud. I am still wondering why I don't
see any signal out when I try to save from the keyboard as well.

Did you check the small switches near the connections ?
There is a switch there for enabling/disabling the restore process.

Yeah, I've gotten to the TAPE display by moving the switch to enable,
I've also tried to the level switch on low and high with every
different volume I could hit it with.

yeah, since I replaced the battery it holds the sounds in memory just
fine. I can program them in, save them, turn off the keyboard and
remove the power from it (both battery and wall wart) and when I
power back up everything was just as I left it. I said goodbye to
that old dead battery and soldering in a battery holder from an old
motherboard I had and put in a 1.5V lithium and now the memory seems
peachy. Keep the ideas coming!

Re: [korgpolyex] Re: Poly 800 MKII

hmmm try using a tape deck an old one is what I use with type one cassettes. The only thing I can think is when I used type two the extra bias had to much sound and it wouldnt load. I use an old radio shack tape portable pkayer from the mid 80s I adjust the volume to 7 and it record and plays the sounds well. The sound blasted may have to much highs and not be passing the data . But you say it doesnt even put out a dsound to save noise so if it wont broadcast im not sure either. I just know I had trouble loading and saving and got a old fashined way the old school way works I havent digitized the shit yet so im not sure on that. I just know I used type one tape and type two wouldnt work, Probally wont help but its what workes for my three polys.....
