Korg Poly800/EX800 Users

just dropping a line to say hi 
great group with the patch sheets 
im in awe of my poly800 i got today 
i never had 1 before and its the sound ive been looking for for years 
ie "bobby o" the flirts and some music i collected from the 80s when i worked in a 2nd 
hand vinyl shop for years. i allways wanted this sound now i got it

seems weird.....
with all the technology today it makes sense, broadband, wires, wireless but putting some 
squiggly sounds via casette tape in a poly 800 seems more tech advance then all this stuff 
today!

havent done that since c64  days and i forgot how mad it was

hope to speak to a few of you over the next while

You can use both tech's: You can download WAV patch files from internet,
burn a CD with them and place it into the Poly. Best of both 80's and 2k.

hey all!

I finally this weekend managed to get not one but two korgs working  
again after I had been struggling with some issues with the first one  
for a little over two years.

I bought my first one for $10 at a swap meet, where i saw the midi in/ 
out and said i gotta have this, all my other midi gear (sampler,  
electric piano, cubase) not having a control keyboard sucked.

it was totally DOA, but after some investigation with the schematic,  
I managed to get the heavenly 11P up on the display

it was able to send and receive midi now, and all the keys were  
working, however i wasnt able to get any sound out of the headphones :-/

I had been looking for what i thought was a replacement tone  
generator chip for a while with no luck, and eventually managed to  
get another dead one for the parts i thought i needed a few months  
back, which was slowly making its way to me here in australia by ship.

It got here a week ago, and i finally managed to get this dead one  
and my other together to make one good working one! (it also had the  
same power supply issues as my first one, so fixing that was easier  
this time around)

i then had sound coming out the L-R outputs, but only a very faint  
one out the headphones (only just noticeable at max volume)
further reading thru the schematics and i found that the headphone  
amp and chorus were on the same board so i plugged those over and  
voila!!! instant headphone noise too!

I then realised that i may have misdiagnosed the first one's issue as  
being no sound, instead of faulty headphone amp, so i banked that  
motherboard back in and it came up lovely too!!

now to try the moog slayer mods on one!@$!@$!@$

Hey folks,

My new Poly-800 arrived on Thursday, just in time for a gig my band had on Saturday 
Night. 

When the board arrived, I was thrilled to see that what was actually described on ebay as 
'mint' was indeed 'mint'. The board is flawless (only drawback - no A/C adaptor). So that 
was wonderful.

I reloaded the presets from the WAV file that's floating around, and they sounded just as 
great (and in places, cheesy) as I remembered them. I had kept some parameter charts for 
a few of my old bread and butter patches, and keyed them in - they sounded fantastic.

Without doing any rehearsals before the show, I was able to use the Poly-800 for synths 
and pads on songs like 'Everybody Want to Rule the World' and 'Don't You Forget About 
Me'. My other board is a Korg Wavestation, and the two sounded really good together.

It's the first time I had played the board live since 1988, and hearing it through the mains 
was a pure pleasure. More than nostalgia, the Poly-800 is a very versatile board for live 
shows. I'm digging it in a huge way.

I'll try and post up some of my patches over the holidays.

Just curious -- would you mind sharing with the group how much your 
paid for the Poly 800 via Ebay?

I have an old 800, which I wish was working properly...

Just a quick note. After having problems with all my Poly 800 voices 
showing up, I re-uploaded the factory sounds and it's finally 
working fully great!

If anyone need the factory demo data, I could possibly upload it to 
this site as an aiff file. I don't think an mp3 has all the necesary 
data to do the job.

Hi,

No problem. My poly-800 was $132.50 plus shipping, and that included a hard case. 
There was no manual or AC Adaptor, but the sheets with parameter info was there.

The board came back MINT.... the guys in my band (who saw the original back in 1985 
when I bought one then) couldn't believe it.

$100 to $150 is the going rate on a running poly.
