Dead memory

2013-07-15 by Buzwan Handsome

Hello guys I am a new comer into the group, I would appreciate a loti f someone could help me, I recently bought a poly 800, and the issue is that it can not keep patches longer than 2 hrs. then they are erased, I thought that it needed a battery replacement but it has none and never had. So I do not know what might be done in this case, could you please give me some advise?.

Hello!
The mk1 poly800 (and the reversed keys one) doesn't have a battery inside and doesn't keep the memory on power down (except you have batteries inside but i am not 100% sure about that) ,,
You need to mod it and add a battery so it will be able to retain its patches on power down..!

Here's a mad idea, put new batteries in the battery holder and use a psu when not using the batteries which
will be most of the time, hence will retain programs. Simples

Using an AC adapter will not retain the programs in memory after the
Poly-800 is turned off. If there is no lithium cell installed, only the six
"C" cells can keep the memory active. If there is no lithium cell, the steps
to add one depend on which of the three versions of KLM-596 board you have.
Here is something from one of my old posts, with examples of different
versions:

S/N 011912 KLM-596-2 - had no solder pads and no battery.

S/N 041368 KLM-596-7 - had solder pads but no battery. R1 and D1 are still
on the board.

S/N 073712 KLM-596-8 - had solder pads and a battery. No R1 or D1 exist on
the board.

You can search some of the old posts for discussions about how to add a
lithium cell battery (one of mine was from Aug 31, 2011) and you can read
the file from hexafuzz in the Yahoo group Files/Poly-800/Servicing section.

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/korgpolyex/files/1%29%20Poly-800/Servic
ing/

If you have any questions about the instructions you find, just ask.

Don Backshall
