don't normalize before mastering: every process which ios done is "worsening" the audio quality (even if you do not hear it, but you eventually will having enough processes in the chain). You better put the treshold of your compressor a little bit lower, or increase the input gain or what ever of your mixing desk. May be you could normalize the file if the preamps of your mixing desk are noisuy, but I was told by several mastering engineers that you really do not need normalizing (and should not use it), because it is 1 more calculation process which detoriates the audio quality.
