Any caddy system I have seen like this has a security key feature. You have to make sure that this is locked. This serves the dual purpose of locking the drive so it cant be pulled out when in use and also send power to the drive (you CAN lock/unlock this while machine is running if you want as it is designed to be used in a RAID system....) Sorry if this seems really dumb, but I got caught out with a caddy system at work like this, thought the whole system had gone south before I realised my error.
