Craziest take on this I ever saw was when a friend (seriously good jazz/salsa pianist) did a gig with a quartet in a South London pub - jazz, accoustic, standards, ergo not loud. The landlady was determined not to miss her favourite soap on ITV, so watched the entire thing on a TV just below the bar, with the volume up quite high, while the band played. She was paying the band, BTW ,and the pub looked like it could do with some (some? a lot!) extra business from the jazz fans. Tony Thompson
