Even though lists are often used to kvetch about things, it's nice to kvell a little too. I had an idea, somewhat related to my request about emulating retro synth sounds: I wanted to mention one or two of my favorite music-making items, things that are, to borrow from Shakespeare "not of the freshest" and don't seem to get much attention, but are still fun, inspiring and/or useful. I was hoping that some other members might mention a few of these types of items that are near-and-dear to their music-making hearts. So here are a couple of my favorite things: I still love my Ensoniq ESQ-1, and even as I go more virtual, it'll probably be one of the pieces of hardward that I hold on to. It was the 4th in a succession of synths that I had bought (Moog Prodigy -> DX7 -> Korg EX800), but it was the first one that I really liked. Even now I find it's unique and gritty sound very useful in arrangements. I've probably used SFX Machine more than anything else to mangle samples. I know that it's only Premier, and that it's been eclipsed by all the VST stuff, but I still turn to it first if I want to freak a sample. Well, there you are. Anybody else want to contribute something about a nugget in their arsenal? Cheers, Kevin
