Pathetic. Absurd. > But unfortunately true. By the way, want to hear a completely depressing story? Here it comes: - EMI turns cartoon rock band into cellular marketing tool The Wall Street Journal - US Abstracts; Apr 24, 2002 EMI Group PLC has formed a rock group called Gorillaz whose record sales are less important than the text message responses it generates from loyal fans. The band, which consists of four cartoon characters, is being used by EMI as a personal-marketing tool that utilizes cellular phones to serve its market. By giving out prizes to Gorillaz fans who send text messages to the band, EMI is able to compile a database of mobile phone numbers from which it can announce concert schedules and album releases of other bands. Marketers say this new marketing approach holds a lot of promise and could reap rewards for EMI in the future. - The industry is changing much faster than anticipated. It seems like digital distribution is taking off exponentially. Bye, Joeri -- Joeri Vankeirsbilck joeri@...
