Subject: LAM: MAC OS X an open letter to Apple
Hello Bill
First I want to say I am a Mac Maniac since many years, and I use my
MAC G4/533 MP to make music with mainly Logic Audio from Emagic. (I have
a network of 4 MAC at home)
Not ready to move to OS X ! why ? (A lot of musicians and non
musicians are in my case. :-( )
There are missing drivers in MAC OS X like : (I have check with the
suppliers and they say they have no plans to write drivers for those
items)
- Driver for Apple Personal LaserWriter 300 printer (that mean I
have to change my printer that is still using it's 1st toner box)
- Midi serial MTP drivers (that mean I have to change my 2 midi
interfaces- Motu MTP and an Opcode Studio 4)
- Driver for the Appian Jeronimo 2000 (that mean I have to change my
dual screen card)
- Driver for the SCSI Proraid Fromac card (that mean I have to
change my SCSI card)
- Driver for the Formac DVD/RAM (that mean I have to change DVD/RAM)
- An OMS version for MAC OS X
To those drivers I am waiting for the announced drivers of my Motu audio
system (Motu 2048MKII + 24i + 1296), for my Wacom A4 and for the update
of Logic Audio
So to the extra cost of OS X I have to add, a laser printer, 2 Midi 8
interface, a dual screen card, an SCSI card and a DVD/RAM :-[ that is a
lot of Euro !
I am ready to spend 150 Euro for MAC OS X but not another two or three
thousand Euro to change my equipment stated above.
Apple has to provide the driver for the personal Laser writer 300 and
has to make OS X compatible with serial MTP Midi devices using the
Stealth or the Gport cards
Apple has to help companies like Formac and Appian to update their
drivers to OS X or to make OS X compatible with their actual drivers
I have put the Logic discussion list in copy (7851 musicians)
Best regards
